Unleash the memories within

Matching names to faces, using it almost as often as some sort of dictionary. Remembering long lost friends or that teacher you talked to every day while you didn’t even have their class. Though it may be early in the year, the Yearbook staff at Bellefonte Area High School has already begun to design this magnificent book of memories with a theme unlike any other seen at the high school.

“The theme this year is ‘Unleash the Raider Within.’ It was a theme that we debated on doing last year, however, not all of the staff agreed on the theme. We wanted to be able to find something that could relate to everything happening within the school at all times,” Co-Editor in Chief of the Yearbook Abby Lohr said.  “‘Unleashing the Raider Within’ emphasizes what it means to go to Bellefonte Area High School and all of the activities available throughout the school year.”

Recording the memories of all the diverse students in the high school is the main concern of the yearbook staff this year, especially Co-Editors in Chief Abby Lohr and Kerri Hoover. Both of these Co-Editors have been with the staff for three years under business teacher and Yearbook Advisor Mr. Andrew Weigold, dedicated to the work that goes into making the yearbook. Apart from the Co-Editors and the Advisor, there are also two Co-Senior Section Editors that focus on all things relating to the seniors, seniors Andrew Sharp and Jasmine Kozel. They all work together, along with the other staff members, to make this yearbook something to remember.

“One of our main goals as an advisor, co-editors, and the yearbook staff is to create the most inclusive product as possible,” Abby said.

It takes a lot of work to make the yearbook look as good as is desired by the population, which can take quite a bit of training for any newbies. Last year, the staff lost a majority of their experienced class to either graduation or because of a lack of class schedules working out. With only five experienced members, a majority of the year so far has been dedicated to training the new members in the way of caption making, photo taking, and page formatting.

“These are memories kids will remember forever, so it needs to be perfect,” Andrew said.

What can be done to make this yearbook turn out to be one of the best yearbooks in the history of Bellefonte Area High School? Well, to the graduating class of 2019, make sure everything requested from the senior packet has been turned in and all senior pictures are correct, which can be checked by talking to Mr. Weigold in room 214. The requested materials included casual photos, baby photos, and senior quotes, along with any flashback photos that can be recreated or parent ads. To request more information, talk to either Mr. Weigold, Andrew, or Jasmine.

The yearbook retains the memories of everyone. From seniors to freshmen, from students to parents, this book will live on for generations to come. To buy a yearbook, go to Jostens.com underneath Bellefonte High School to see everything there is to offer. So, as the year goes on and the memories keep building up to the point of nearly overflowing, the yearbook staff will continue to record those pressing memories, just for you.

“I remember sitting there with everyone and we all just lit up when we finally decided on [a theme]. It definitely represents this year regarding our school spirit and I can’t wait for people to see it. I would definitely highlight our two editors Abby Lohr and Kerri Hoover for bringing everyone’s ideas to life,” Jasmine said.

The Co-Editors in Chief this year plan to make the yearbook something special this year. As they work, you can go out and order one of these yearbooks before it may be too late. The yearbook can be ordered online at jostens.com. Just search Bellefonte High School, Pennsylvania on the website to see the various options available when ordering a yearbook or you can go see Mr. Weigold in room 214 for another way of ordering with a check rather than online.
