With the basketball season in the past, both the boys and girls teams can reflect on the ups and downs of their season as they take a break before hitting the courts next year.
Lady Raider basketball started their season off with power, having defeated Juniata 46-42.
“Our biggest accomplishment was winning our first game of the season. It was the first time in a few years that we did that,” junior Mallorie Smith said.
Then on January 29, Lady Raiders lost against Hollidaysburg with a score of 50-23. The team lost February 2 against Penns Valley with a score of 68-48. On February 4, Bellefonte went head-to-toe with our rival team Bald Eagle, and won by 18 points, the final score being 47-29. The girls won earlier in the season against Bald Eagle with a score of 69-63, on January 11.
This season kept everyone feeling good and well-prepared.
I think our season went better than last year. We improved throughout the season and we did our best to compete with every team we faced. We are a very tight knit group so we had lots of fun this season. A lot of the time, you’d see us with smiles on our faces on the court

The Bellefonte boys basketball team also started their season off strong, when on December 14 they won against Philipsburg-Osceola with a score of 54-30. They also won their other game against Philipsburg-Osceola on January 23, with a score of 76-46. Nearly a week later, January 28, the boys brought home another win against Juniata, with a score of 53-36.
They did not start February off well, however, when on February 1, Bellefonte lost against Hunnington with a score of 75-85. Then the following day, they lost against Tyrone with a close score of 44-50.
“There were some games we should have won, but we played well,” senior Noah Badger said.
The boys then went on to beat Bald Eagle on January 11, securing a score of 62-56 against our rivals.
The boys team had advanced to district championships, but however did not come to a win, having lost 75-71 in overtime to Greater Johnstown at Penn State-Altoona.
Even though the team lost, they were still proud that they went all the way to districts and that they played well.
“I felt very good about getting to the district championship, but I never felt like we finished the job. I was still proud of the way our team played,” senior Nathan Tice said.
