Due to COVID-19 and school being cancelled for the end of the year, seniors are missing out on all of their fun end-of-the-year activities, and are working hard to be able to make them still happen. 

The Senior Class had a lot planned for the end of the year and spent a lot of time throughout the years fundraising to be able to have the best senior year possible. Unfortunately, their year was cut short and they were not able to do the activities planned.

“We are missing out on things like Senior Ball, our Senior Class Trip to Toronto, the All-Night Party, and the Senior Picnic” Senior Class Treasurer Alina Watson said. 

Like anyone would feel about missing out on these fun and memorable activities, a lot of seniors are sad that they won’t get to experience them with the people they’ve spent their school career with and have been friends with since even elementary school.

“I think I am most disappointed that we will not have a traditional goodbye and end of the year with our classmates and teachers. I will miss everyone so much and wish I could have spent those final moments of the year with them,” Senior Class Secretary Abby Harper said. 

Missing out on some memorable moments of their life with their friends is one of the saddest parts. The students had the last day of the school year without even knowing it as they cancelled school after the weekend. 

“I am most disappointed in not being able to spend my last few months as a high schooler in school with my friends. It was also very sad that we all had our last day of high school without even knowing it,” Senior Class Cabinet member Keeli Pighetti said. 

Even though they are missing out on all of these things right now, there may be hope if people are able to gather in larger groups over the summer. 

“We’re trying to work in some events closer to the fall to try to make up for what we missed out on. It will be different but we’re trying,” Alina said. 

The Class Cabinet has been working hard to make senior year still great if they are able to plan these activities again when it is safer. They don’t want their time spent planning and fundraising to go to waste. The seniors are trying to have the goodbye they haven’t had yet. 

“The Cabinet has been continuing to meet and we hope to have at least a time for everyone to say goodbye, if it is safe and possible of course. We were definitely looking forward to our plans for Senior Ball and other events, so we hope that something can still be possible at a different time,” Abby said. 

The seniors are graduating and graduation parties were supposed to be happening. Some people have been thinking about celebrating when they are able or whenever it is convenient. 

“I do not have any celebrations planned yet, but I am hoping to at least have a small party with close friends and family when it is safe to do so,” Keeli said.

While at home, seniors, along with the other grades, have been required to do school work and students taking AP classes recently had their exams. 

“I have been taking AP exams and working on school work. I am thankful that it will be over soon though so I can spend even more time on fun things and hobbies I enjoy,” Alina said.

While it is sad to see the seniors’ year come to an early end, there is still hope for the future. Congratulations to the Class of 2020.
