Football, girls, and gangs…the average teenager’s life?

Every high school athlete experiences adversity on and off the field. Spencer James, from the CW network’s show, “All-American,”  is a perfect example of that. All-American is a TV show that allows viewers to follow Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) through his chaotic high school life. What makes Spencer James so special? He is a portrayal of Spencer Paysinger, a former NFL player. Spencer lives in South Crenshaw, California. One big offer changes his life.

In season one of  All-American, viewers gain insight to the main character’s life, meeting Spencer’s little brother Dillon (Jalyn Hall), mother Grace (Karimah Westbrook), and his best friend Coop (Bre-Z). His story begins with him playing in a South Crenshaw football game. In South Crenshaw, someone gets shot in a drive by shooting just outside the gates of the football game in which Spencer’s full skills were on display. As everyone leaves, Coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) introduces himself to Spencer as a coach in the next city, Beverly Hills. Coach Baker offers Spencer a chance for him to come play for him at Beverly in hopes of winning a state championship. After talking with his family, he accepts. The rest of season one is all about Spencer trying to adapt to his new life.

Season two began with Spencer facing a decision on whether or not to return to South Crenshaw. As he battles with this, Coach Baker had to do some serious soul searching after losing his way. As the season rolled through, viewers witnessed Corey pass away due to cancer, Coach Baker nearly losing his job. After a traumatic experience and impactful hardship, Spencer decides to return home, leaving viewers with many predictions for what season three holds. As season three has been officially renewed, there is no timetable on when it will return. According to Popsugar.com, with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, season three is expected to air in January 2021 instead of October 2020 like the previous two seasons due to the global pandemic. Throughout the story of Spencer James, we see Olivia’s past time and again. She had a drug addiction and is still working to overcome it. One of the predictions for season three is Olivia is going to face major challenges with her sobriety. Spencer’s traumatic experience was a big hit to his career, causing viewers to watch more and find out if he ever recovers. Season three will most likely cover this issue, as at the end of season two, Spencer asks Coach Baker to come to South Crenshaw and coach him. Although he did not give an answer, it is predicted Coach Baker will take the job in season three. What does this mean for Spencer and everyone else?
