Looking to find clothing with cheaper prices? Goodwill is a great option to keep in mind. They have clothing from pretty much every decade, making it helpful to some to find vintage pieces in this store. Goodwill is a thrift store and non-profit organization that takes people’s used clothing and resells them for less expensive prices.

Goodwill is especially known for their fun and unique way of making clothes more affordable. The store puts colored tags on each of their clothes, and each color coordinates with a different price. These prices may vary daily, weekly, or monthly, but they are all pretty affordable. 

Recently in October, a new Goodwill on Benner Pike opened. This was exciting for the Bellefonte community because this Goodwill offers a closer location than where it had originally been in State College. 

The first day it opened, it was packed. I had gone on the second day of its opening, and ended up waiting 45 minutes in line. Many were looking forward to seeing what the new store had to offer.

“I really liked the new one. I love that it’s bigger and doesn’t feel nearly as crowded,” said senior Morgan Goodman about the store. 

She had also gone to Goodwill within its first few days of opening. She was able to find two crewnecks that she ended up purchasing, and her total was less than $11. 

“I’d definitely go again,” she said. 

Goodwill is a great place to shop because of its many efforts to help the community. An eighth of Goodwill’s profit ends up going to charity. Their money goes towards programs such as placement services, job training, and classes for people with disabilities. Goodwill is a company that focuses on giving back to those in need all while making clothes more affordable for everyone. 

The thrift store also helps people through their hiring process. The company focuses on hiring those who have a disability and struggle to find jobs elsewhere. 

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, “the unemployment rate among adults with disabilities remains at 14.1 percent — nearly twice as high as the unemployment rate of people without disabilities.” Goodwill offers a helping hand to those who need it. 

About “thirty thousand people with disabilities work at Goodwill,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International.

Not only is Goodwill a great place to shop because of its feedback to the community, but it also has a wide variety of different items anyone can look for. 

If you are planning to shop here, make sure you grab a basket for all the clothing you find. They also have furniture, accessories, decor, and movies. There are so many things to look for when you go.

“My favorite part was looking at the cute little antiques and all the old decorations,” said senior Megan Hamaty said. “There were so many people with carts full of things.”

Since we are still in the middle of a pandemic, make sure to always wash the clothing you get before you wear it, and to take precautions while in the store shopping. Once you do, feel free to enjoy your new pieces of clothing.
