New games coming this winter
October 1, 2021
Right now, the movie industry is soaring. Everyone is excited for movies like Shang Chi and Spiderman: No Way Home. However, the gaming industry will also be having a few big releases in the coming months. Halo: Infinite, the sixth installment in the franchise, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, the twenty fourth installment in the franchise, are set to come out this winter. Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on November 15, while Halo: Infinite will come out nearly a month later, on December 8.
Vanguard is following Call of Duty: Cold War, which was released a year ago. Vanguard’s campaign story will be about the final battles of World War II. Call of Duty: Cold War followed the story of well, the Cold War. The game’s beta is set to come out November 5, ten days before the full game comes out. Some gaming reviewers, like IGN, have been able to play the beta before anyone else. Seth Macy from IGN talked about how the game feels the same from last year, just with a few new modes.
“You might feel like this is last year’s Call of Duty MP with a WW2 skin,” Macy stated.
Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Search & Destroy will be returning from last year. The game will also feature a new game mode called Patrol. Patrol takes inspiration from the former Hardpoint mode. On the map, you can find an objective that needs to be completed. The Hardpoint mode had you move to a completely different map between rounds, but not Patrol. Everyone will instead slowly move around the map. No matter if the game is supposed to be great or terrible, millions of people will still play it. That is the power that Call of Duty has on the gaming community.
As for Halo, “Infinite” is very highly anticipated. Halo has released three games since Halo 5: Guardians, which was released in 2015. The three games released have all been played by many, but not as many as “Infinite” is expected to be played by. Halo: Infinite is being advertised as Halo 6, which everyone has been craving since 2015. “Infinite” was announced in 2018, and has been in development ever since. The game’s development was postponed because of COVID-19. Paul Tassi from Forbes gave his thoughts on the game;
“Nearly all the impressions I’m seeing from players in the technical flight have been positive…this potentially feels like 343’s best Halo multiplayer outing to date,” Tassi stated.
As far as what we know about the game, 343 Industries has given a lot of information. A new weapon, called the Skewer, is being implemented. This is the most notable of new weapons coming. The weapon originates from the game Gears of War. Other new weapons include the Pulse Carbine, Ravager, Mangler, and CQS48 Bulldog. The campaign for the game will not come at launch, but instead will release later. Halo: Infinite will apparently have a more open world aspect than any game they made before. The multiplayer aspect of the game will be completely free to all users. The game is an XBox exclusive, so if you are on any other console, you will not be able to play the game.
Both of these two new games are anticipated to be a very good game. The Vanguard reviewers haven’t been entirely satisfied with it. But, it is only the beta, and there is still 3 months before its release. When Halo: Infinite was first shown in 2020, people didn’t like it very much. But now with the gameplay, it seems as if everyone is now excited for it. No matter how good or bad the games are, they will be the two biggest games out in the winter. Now all we can do is wait until the games are released to the public.
