Fashion has changed significantly throughout the years. This year, the BAHS cheerleaders dressed up in old cheerleading uniforms for Decades Night to showcase the changes in their uniforms throughout the years. At Bellefonte’s home football game against Philipsburg Osceola Highschool, on September 9, cheerleaders wore uniforms from all different decades.

Prestie Headings is the head coach for Bellefonte’s Cheer Team.

“Decades night was fun due to the fact that the kids learned about the history and past of our squad and how things evolve over time. We had the idea of wearing all the older uniforms to show the history of our team. We had a lot of alumni that loved seeing their old uniforms out on the field again and it brought back a lot of memories. The game is always exciting and we try to get the crowd and students involved.  Our student section, the ‘Raider Nation,’ has been the best this year,” Coach Headings said.

The cheerleaders reported that they also enjoyed the themed night.

“Decades night was really fun. We got to dress in old cheer uniforms,” sophomore Kayla Gonzalez said.

Many of these outfits were from a very long time ago, and it was such a unique experience to see the outfits after such a long time for the fans watching.

Even though the Raiders lost the game, the cheerleaders brought up the spirit; not only with their outfits, but with their cheers.

“Obviously the game was amazing. We might have lost, but it’s always fun,” freshman Peyton Elnitski said.

Sophomore Sadie Thomas enjoyed seeing all of the students and fans back together.

“After having a rough year last year with the pandemic, it’s nice to see things starting to get back to normal. Having cheer last year with no fans was not easy, but it makes me happy to see all of the Raider Nation’s great outfits this year,” Sadie said.

Seeing the way in which the uniforms changed over time was fascinating for everyone, but one thing remained the same: how the students, crowd, and Raider Nation really gave their all this year, and continue to do so each year.
