The first Homecoming Dance in two years is set to be held on Saturday, October 9, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

This year, the dance will be semi-formal and tickets will be sold at $5.00 each, though tickets will not be available at the dance, they have to be purchased during school hours. Students can buy tickets from Wednesday, September 29 through Wednesday, October 6 before school, during lunch, and during Raider period. Unlike previous years the Homecoming Dance will be held outside at the school.

This year’s dance has been full of obstacles for the Student Council. From COVID-19 to student participation, there have been struggles all around.

“The largest obstacle in planning has been trying to maintain as many normal aspects of homecoming as possible while still adhering to the school guidelines regarding Covid,” says Senior Quinn Tooker on how it was a struggle to plan the homecoming dance this year.

Student Council is advised by teachers Miss Jennifer Richardson and Mrs. Heather Huntsinger.

“I think this will be great because students often get really hot from dancing when we are in the cafeteria,” Miss Richardson said.

Although the dance is outside this year, masks are still required for all regardless of vaccination status. If a mask is forgotten there will be some provided at the dance. Unlike years past, guests from outside the high school will not be allowed to attend this dance out of safety reasons.

“We are most concerned with our students and their health and safety,” Miss Richardson said.

The DJ for Homecoming this year is Bellefonte’s very own senior Dante Cappelline. If it happens to rain on Saturday, October 9, the dance will be moved to Saturday, October 16.

Thanks to the determination of the students in Student Council, the Bellefonte High School will be able to have the first homecoming and the first school dance in nearly two years.
