Spiderman: No Way Home set to break records

Matthew Zandi, Staff Reporter

Most people like going out to a movie theater to watch the hot new movie out. In the past eighteen months, that has been taken away from the public. COVID-19 has kept everyone inside during that time, but now things are about to change.

With vaccines rolling out and people allowed outside, movie theaters are again becoming a hotspot. Marvel’s next film, Spiderman: No Way Home will be coming to theaters this December, and it couldn’t come soon enough for Marvel fans.

The trailer for the movie has over 67 million views on YouTube as of September 20. That number broke the record for most views of a movie trailer in 24 hours. Additionally, It had 355 million views globally on all sites through the first day. It passed the previous record held by Avengers: Endgame, which had 289 million.

Spiderman:No Way Home will be the fourth movie in the fourth phase of Marvel movies. It is following Black Widow, Shang Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings, and Eternals. The story is based around the public finding out the identity of Peter Parker being Spiderman. He can no longer live a normal life, because of everyone knowing who he is. His life has fully become a superhero, the movie goes through Peter finding out how to live, along with protecting his community and city.

Spiderman: No Way Home is one of the most anticipated movies of all time. Its release comes December 17 of this year.

Tom Holland, who plays Spiderman in the movie, reacted to the movie’s excitement on his Instagram, posting on August 25,“The love and support you guys show for the film is so exciting. Honestly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You have no idea what is to come. I’m so excited to share more with you guys, and it feels so good to be back with Spider-Man and showing you trailers, to be having films coming out. This is so exciting.”

There is a chance that the movie breaks the record of highest grossing movie of all time. This record, along with many others, are records this movie hopes to steal away from Avengers: Endgame.

Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, who were the three main characters in Spiderman: Far From Home, will all be returning. Other actors who had more minor roles like Marisa Tomei, JB Smoove, and JK Simmons are also returning. A number of former antagonists in past movies could be back. In the trailer, Doctor Ock was seen, who was last in Spiderman 2 in 2004. There were more signs throughout the trailer signaling others. These antagonists that were hinted at in the trailer are Green Goblin, Sandman, Electro, and Lizard. This could mean Alfred Molina, Thomas Haden Church, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, and Rhys Ifans will be making their return to the franchise. It is even rumoured that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who previously played Spiderman will be returning. Garfield has since shot down the rumour of his return. There have been photos of Garfield on the set of the movie, and he responded. He claims that the photos are deep fake and photoshopped. The fans of Marvel are still hopeful of his presence in the movie, along with Maguires.

There hasn’t been this much excitement and buzz around a movie since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. With the reopening of movie theaters recently, Disney timed the release of the movie perfectly. “No Way Home” will complete the trilogy led by Tom Holland and Zendaya. It will not be the last Spiderman movie, as the next one is expected to begin production soon. Even if the movie is underwhelming, it will make a lot of money and get people talking. Either way, Marvel fans are in store for a huge hit coming in December.
