LaShanda in Bellefonte
October 3, 2022
Within Bellefonte High, students have found fun ways to showcase their creativity throughout not only the school, but also the entire internet, through creating unique Instagram accounts to show off their passions.
Over the years there have been multiple fan pages run by BAHS students– accounts from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson fan accounts to school parking review pages .
Sophomores Makenna Mason and Elyse Olson are two of these individuals. Last May, they created an account for Makenna’s little sister’s babydoll, named “LaShanda,” where the two share the entire life of the doll.
“LaShanda had a story to tell, and we made that happen. It’s not often that you find such devoted and caring youth in this day and age, but LaShanda is an exceptional young babydoll and she’s going to change the world,” Elyse said.
Even though the account is run for a babydoll, the girls still thought that it was only fair to follow the person who gave them inspiration to create the account.
“LaShanda exclusively follows @therock. Dwayne the Rock Johnson himself has inspired LaShanda to be herself and do her own thing,” Makenna said.
While at first the girls were nervous about the backlash they may receive from creating the account, they decided to do things “the Rock” style and just go for it.
“For the longest time, LaShanda was afraid to show Bellefonte High who she really was, for fear of humiliation and ridicule. But Dwayne the Rock Johnson showed her that there’s no need to be afraid and that whether you’re a WWE wrestler or an actor in a Disney film, you can shine. So now LaShanda shines, as bright as the sun,” Elyse said.
The girls are very passionate about their account. As of right now they have 31 followers and average eleven views per post. They plan on extending their account onto other platforms like Tiktok and Twitter to get a larger audience.
In the meantime, Makenna thought it would be a good idea to bring LaShanda visits to the high school and make new friends, all while documenting her experiences.
“LaShanda has been making a great effort to make friends and join clubs and such … we thought she’d like to show everyone her new friends on Instagram,” Makenna said.
The pair has come up with many creative ideas for posts. They vary from camping trips to the pet shop. LaShanda, of course, looks good in all of the shots.
“LaShanda really enjoyed the post with her puppy pals. We thought she would have a blast visiting the pet store. She just loves animals, she really has a bond with all things furry, aquatic, and feathered. Her new pals are Bow-Bow the dog and Skimbleshanks the cat. It took a little time to warm up to her, but I think they love her just as much as she loves them,” Elyse said.
These are only two of many students in Bellefonte with extra creative accounts. Be sure to check out LaShanda at @lashandameetsworld on Instagram.
