Junior Trevor Johnson to Duke

Alex Ebeling, Student Engagement Coordinator

Bellefonte Area High School Junior Trevor Johnson recently shared his commitment to Duke University. He plays baseball and football for Bellefonte, but baseball is the sport he has decided to continue into his college career.

Trevor was inclined to choose Duke over other colleges for several reasons.

I cannot pass up the academics of such a prestigious school. I have always had the dream of playing division one baseball in the ACC [Atlantic Coast Conference]  and I fell in love with Duke,” Trevor said.

While attending Duke University, Trevor plans to study and major in engineering or sports psychology. Until he goes off to college, he still has another two seasons of baseball to play for Bellefonte.

“I plan on working hard in the offseason and getting into the weight room and gaining needed muscle to play baseball in the ACC,” Trevor said.

Trevor looks forward to playing for Duke. He is excited for many things, but is especially enthusiastic about certain aspects of college.

“I am most excited about playing baseball at a very high level and getting a great education,” Trevor said.

Playing baseball at a division one level college is extremely difficult and rare. Buddy Johnson, his father and Bellefonte Middle School physical education and health teacher, is incredibly proud of Trevor..

“Seeing Trevor’s hard work and dedication in the classroom and on the baseball field pay off means the world to us. It is a great feeling to see how happy Trevor is and to have this incredible opportunity,” Mr. Johnson said.

Like many parents, Mr. Johnson still has high expectations for his son.

“The sky’s the limit for Trevor.  He has never backed down from a challenge. We have always believed in him as much as he has believed in himself. Trevor will cherish every moment that he is a Duke Blue Devil and will certainly make the most of this opportunity,” he said.

Throughout playing travel baseball for US Elite, Trevor and his family have made many memories.

“One of my favorite memories is traveling all over the East Coast for his summer baseball tournaments. It was a lot of fun, great family time, and we had an opportunity to meet a lot of very good people,” Mr. Johnsnon said.

Junior Grady Garrison is good friends with Trevor.

“I believe that Trevor achieved this goal because he is determined, and will do anything he sets out to do,” Grady said.

Grady also commented on how Trevor is, as a friend, a nice guy, and someone who will always be there when needed.

“As a friend is a nice guy, and will always be there when needed,” Grady said.

Another friend of Trevor’s, junior Grace Novitsky, had nothing but good things to say about his future.

“Trevor is bound for great things, on the baseball field and off of it. As a friend of Trevor’s, I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors in life,” Grace said.
