The 2023 girls basketball team began their season at the beginning of December and ended on February 11. The girls ended their season with a 4-18 record while going 2-12 in the Mountain League, beating Philipsburg-Osceola for seventh in the league.

With a losing season, the girl’s team still had wins against Philipsburg-Osceola, East Juniata, and Juniata. Highlights of the season also included teacher appreciation night and raising money for military night. Bellefonte senior Emma Rossman talks about her favorite game of the season.

“My favorite part of this season was when we beat [Philipsburg-Osceola] at home. The most challenging part of the season was being on a 9 game losing streak and being able to push to get a win,” Emma said.

The team overall had high spirits and worked together well as a team. Not only playing together, the girls favorite memories consisted of time before pre-games, listening to music, and dancing with everyone. Junior Maria Cotter shares some of her favorite memories of the season.

“My favorite game was the second time we played against Penns Valley. It was a game where we all worked well as a team and kept fighting till the end,” Maria said.

Even in games that they did not win, the girls still loved to play together. Most of the teammates cried on senior night when seniors Emma Rossman, Alexis Kopcha, and Sydney Hamilton had their final game at home. Sophomore Taylor Brown gave  her advice for the team for next season.

“Everyone next year should continue to work hard and never give up,” she said.

The girl’s basketball season may not have gone the way that girls wanted to, but they continued to have fun with each other and enjoy the victories. They continue to grow and are excited to see what the future brings.
