Homecoming to high school students is a big deal. An entire week dedicated to showing school spirit and making memories with friends. A tradition of Homecoming, however, is to have a “Homecoming Court” within the student body. Students who are in the court are seen as role models for not only the rest of the school, but also the community as a whole. This year, the court has 12 members, each with their own story.
Running for a position on the court is a huge privilege. Being chosen to represent your whole school is not something that anyone is offered. Especially as underclassmen, freshmen Rory Pelipesky and Gavin Lucas chose to run for a position on the court.
“I think being on the court is a fun new experience,” Gavin said.
Sophomore Madelyn “Maddy” Lucas and Issac Gall were chosen to represent the class of ‘26 as their Homecoming representatives. This is their second Homecoming, but they hope that it is still as magical as the first.
“I am excited about Homecoming this year because the dance is always a lot of fun and the parade will be a lot of fun to be a part of,” Issac said.
For Homecoming, the Senior Class can have five couples nominated to become the Homecoming king and queen. When asked why she chose to run, Senior Leah VonGunden stated this.
“I chose to join Homecoming Court this year because it is my senior year and I want to have a good eventful last year here at the high school,” Leah said.
Leah’s excitement also extends to the activities during the homecoming week.
“I as well thought it would be a fun opportunity and event to experience since you get to be a part of many events such as being in the parade, you get to be a part of the pep rally and do the games they provide, be introduced at the homecoming game, making music videos with your partner, dressing up, and getting to know people you wouldn’t normally talk to,” Leah said.
Homecoming is a tradition for many high schools, and the Hming court is what makes most of the events. This Homecoming will undoubtedly be a great one this year.
