Evidence shows that Thanksgiving is a top five holiday for families in the United States. It’s a day of giving thanks to everything you appreciate in your life, eating delicious food, being with your friends and loved ones, and going Black Friday shopping the next day. Most people travel on Thanksgiving to be with their loved ones on this special holiday.
Bellefonte Area High School’s (BAHS) Foods and Parenthood teacher, Shawna Weaver, shares how she is a mother of three boys and is highly respected by her peers and students.
“I 100% think Thanksgiving is one of the top Holidays. I believe most people travel to be with family on Thanksgiving more than any other holiday,” Shawna Weaver said.
According to https://www.statista.com/ around 166.3 million United States consumers shop on Black Friday as a Thanksgiving tradition. BAHS teachers Shawna Weaver, Arimani Davy, and Drew Eddinger feel as if Black Friday shopping is a tradition for most families in the U.S. as they all celebrate Thanksgiving by shopping on Friday.
Environment and Ecology teacher, Arimani Davy, experiences Thanksgiving with her husband, her young son, and most of her family. She is also pregnant with her second child.
“We go to my Aunt and Uncle’s house for dinner on Thanksgiving Day and then we always go Black Friday shopping (my sisters, mom, gram, aunt, cousins, and our kids) the next day – which I love,” Davy said.
Biology and Chemistry teacher, Drew Eddinger, likes to spend the holiday with her husband and two sons who she calls her whole world.
“We usually make a weekend of it also, and do some Christmas shopping together on Friday,” Eddinger said.
Computer Applications and Business teacher, Ryan Myers, spends the holiday season with his wife and two daughters. He is not one of the million others that goes Black Friday shopping, but he has other traditions.
“I found the most hideous “Happy Turkey day” shirt and a full body turkey costume and I wear them proudly and embarrass my kids. I try to find a new turkey recipe every year. Other than that, we play an excessive amount of board games and watch football,” Myers said.
All of these teachers’ comments and opinions on Thanksgiving can prove that Thanksgiving is important to not only them and their family’s, but also millions of others. Every family has their own traditions, food, and way of spending this wonderful holiday with their loved ones.
