Meet Josie Underwood: a senior at Bellefonte Area High School who is involved in Raider Revolution, Academic Decathlon, Chinese Club, Track & Field, and Cross Country. Even amidst this impressive list, she continues to maintain straight As and does activities in her free-time.
Throughout her years of school, she has learned what subjects she has excelled in, and how to have good study habits for college. Josie will be moving onto her next adventure in life in just a few months as she plans on attending Penn State University for college. Along with college, she has big plans beyond high school.
“I would love to travel to new places and get to see the different aspects of their environments,” Josie said.
She would also like to take on more responsibilities such as getting a job and owning her own apartment.
Josie has been a part of Cross Country and Track & Field since seventh grade. She has formed more love for these two sports over the years because she was able to find and do something she excels at and enjoys, while creating great friendships with her teammates.
During her last months of high school, she looks forward to all of the fun senior activities that she will be able to do with her friends. She is excited to make some last moment memories before her and her friends go off to college, yet is sad to leave her friends behind.
“I will miss my underclassmen friends that I have made in sports, going to sporting events, and some of my teachers,” Josie said.
Something that will be able to cheer her up though will be the Senior Ball, the Senior Class trip to Boston, the All-Night Party, the class picnic, and well, of course, graduation.
One of the teachers Josie will miss and definitely appreciates would be Government and teacher Mrs. Allyson Durney.
“Having Josie in class is wonderful. She is kind and conscientious and has a great sense of humor. She isn’t afraid to ask for help but does a great job excelling with class material. She is a joy to teach and I would take a classroom full of Josies,” Mrs. Durney said.
One of Josie’s closest friends, senior Emma Shawley, explains what kind of a person Josie has been for everyone who is lucky enough to know her.
“Josie is a light for everyone around her, and her radiant energy and kindness is why she is such a great person, student, and friend. She never fails to uplift me on any day. Her dedication and devotion to whatever she does is inspiring,” Emma said.
Josie took a moment to leave a message for everyone who has been a part of her life while at BAHS.
“I would like to appreciate the friendships I have made along the way and how people have helped me become the person I am,” she said.
