This season has been a solid overall year for both the girls and boys indoor track team. The records from this year’s indoor performance leads spectators to believe that something special could happen this year during the spring outdoor season.
The indoor track season is usually used as a way to get extra competition, but also get ready for the outdoor season. The indoor team’s performance tends to be similar to how the outdoor team will perform; at least, this has been true in past years. Fortunately, this year’s indoor track season has been successful enough to say that this spring could be electric.
Not only do the fans think highly of the Bellefonte track programs, but senior Grady Garrison is pleased with the records set so far.
“The indoor season has been going great. Overall, there has been many new records that have been set. With the indoor season coming to an end, we have big aspirations for the upcoming outdoor season,” Grady said.
Some of the broken records that Grady was talking about consist of the boys 4 X 800 team which consisted of seniors Keith Eicholtz, Alex Crist, Caleb Vinnedge, and Grady. Next was the 800, which was broken by Alex Crist. Then the girls 400, girls long jump, girls 200, and girls 60, which were all broken by freshman Althea Helms. Next was the girls shot put which was broken by sophomore Madison Miller. The next one was the girls 4 by 200 which was broken by senior Sara Proctor, Althea Helms, Madison Miller, and sophomore Anna Tyson. Next was the boys 4 X 200, which was broken by seniors Collin Sharp and Trey Wagner, and juniors Aden Howell and Zane Hummel. With all of these broken records, everyone is looking forward to what this group of athletes can do this spring.
Junior Annie Cernuska has also had a great season so far and has played a big role in the success this year.
“As a whole, indoor was an amazing start for everyone. We were able to knock off the competition rust and many people broke indoor school records, both individually and in relays,” Annie said.
Not only do the players believe that this team is special and could do great things this spring, but so does Head Coach Seth Miller.
“During the indoor track and field season, we had a great group of student-athletes consistently attend workouts. This helped us set over ten indoor records during the season and qualify two individuals for the indoor state meet.”
Coach Miller believes the success of the indoor season will lead to a successful outdoor season as well.
“Our goal is to battle for a district team title and qualify as many as we can for the outdoor state championships,” Coach Miller said.
