Bellefonte High’s junior, Noah Weaver, has been a big star in the Bellefonte wrestling program. With his hard work and leadership skills, he has been a great role model for his peers and teammates, both on and off the mat. Being the leader and captain he is, he wrestled in districts during the weekend of February 16-17 and placed second. He will be moving on to regionals.
Noah has had an impressive first 3 years as a Red Raider, he racked up 84 wins and that number is still rising. This year he had a 81.4 win percentage, 10 wins by decision, 2 from major decisions, 14 by technical falls, 5 by fall, and 4 by default or forfeit. The 2 time captain earned 35 wins this year and more still to come with the post-season approaching.
Noah reflects on his junior year and his best season thus far.
“Individually, I think I am having a pretty good season and I hope to qualify for the state tournament for the first time this year. That would be a big accomplishment for me, to qualify for the state tournament,” he said.
The captain has also noticed how the Raiders have been doing as a whole.
“The team’s season started off kind of slow with a couple of pretty bad losses to some teams, but I think we turned it around and finished pretty strong with an upset win over Central. We had some injuries in the beginning as well that were some setbacks…I think we came along and finished really strong,” Noah said.
Wrestling Coach Mr. Michael Maney, who also teaches history at BAHS, has watched Noah grow over the past four years.
“…He has grown tremendously from the work ethic and the extra work he does in-season & the off-season. He has earned everything he has achieved by overcoming obstacles and preserving. As a person, he has also grown into a great leader and ambassador for the wrestling program. He is a student-athlete you are honored to have and represent in your program,” Mr. Maney said.
Mr. Maney also recognizes Noah’s mentality and his the effect he has on his teammates.
“Noah is very keel and appears calm in every situation. His teammates respect him and overall he has great morals and traits he knows the core values of the wrestling program so in that way he is an extension of the coaching staff.”
Mr. Maney has witnessed Noah’s leadership skills as well, and continues to be impressed with the respect that Noah gets from his teammates.
“He is a person who leads by example by doing all the right things. He works hard, is coachable, does well in the classroom, and does extra outside of the practice room. When you see a team leader and captain, he checks all the boxes.”
Noah has been in the wrestling scene since he was young. His plans for college are uncertain at this time.
“To be honest, I don’t really have much of a desire to wrestle in college. At this point I’m not even sure if I want to go to college. I mean if I get a good offer from a good program, then I might consider it, but…I really don’t know if I will be wrestling in college,” Noah said.
In Noah’s free time he really likes to be outdoors with his friends.
“I like to hunt, fish, and hang out with my friends and family. It’s nice because I live right by the woods so it is easy for us to just go out and do those things,” Noah said.
