On March 1 in Glasgow, Scotland, the best track athletes in the world took the big stage to compete in the 2024 Indoor Track World Championships. The big meet would see many big performances, shocking results, and familiar faces taking gold.
Starting with the men’s shot put, American thrower Ryan Crouser who is one of the most familiar faces in the entire sport would have a huge throw of 22.77 meters to win the indoor world title.
The United States would dominate the 60-meter dash finals with sprinters Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles securing a 1-2 finish for the U.S. Coleman would grab gold with a time of 6.41 seconds which would end up becoming the best time run in the world for the year. Noah Lyles would snag a very close second right behind Coleman running a time of 6.44 seconds.
In the 1500 meter run another American would grab gold for the United States men team being Cole Hocker running a time of 3:39.32 edging out a fellow runner from Sweden who ran a 3:39.63.
Long jumpers Jarrion Lawson and William Williams would go on to take 5th and 7th at World Championships for men’s team USA. Lawson who took 5th jumped a season best 8.06 meters and his teammate Wiliiams jumped 7.83 meters.
Cameron Murray would be yet another name that would be pretty big to team USA’s success at the meet as he would go on to take 4th place in the 60 meter hurdles on day two of the meet.
Another huge distance race for the U.S would be in the 3000 meter run with Yared Nuguse running a season best 7:43.59 resulting in a silver medal as he takes second place and his teammate Olin Hacker would take 5th place also running a season best time of 7:45.40.
Another silver medalist for team USA would be Shelby McEwen in the men’s high jump and he would have a very good jump of 2.28 meters just behind the champion from New Zealand Hamish Kerr who jumped a new world lead of 2.36 meters.
To round up the individual events for mens U.S team would be in pole vault, Sam Kendricks, who would take second place with 5.90 meters and teammate Christopher Nilsen would be close behind in 4th place with 5.75 meters.
In the 4×400 meter relay the United States men’s team consists of Jacory Patterson, Matthew Boling, Noah Lyles, and Christopher Bailey. They would go on to take second with a time of 3:02.60 right behind Belgium who would be the champions and take the new world lead with a time of 3:02.54.
While the men’s team for the USA had a very solid world championship meet grabbing multiple medals the women’s team would also see a good bit of success making a lot of noise.
For the U.S women’s team Chase Jackson would snag a silver medal in the women’s shot put with a very nice throw of 19.67 meters and her teammate Maggie Ewen would go on to take 7th with a throw of 18.96 meters.
USA pole vaulters Katie Moon and Sandi Morris would go on to take 3rd place and 5th place finishes in their event. Moon would take 3rd with 4.75 meters and Morris would go on to take 5th with 4.65 meters.
Celera Barnes would take 4th place in the 60 meter dash for womens with a fast time of 7.14 seconds.
In the women’s 3000 meter run Ellie St. Pierre ran a huge time of 8:20.87 which would end up making her the world champion for this event and no one was really that close to her either.
To wrap it up the USA women’s 4×400 meter team would take second with a time of 3:28.04. The team consists of Quanera Hayes, Jessica Wright, Na’Asha Robinson, and Bailey Lear.
