Senior Alyssa Beers is an important part of our school and community. She participates in many activities in and out of school, and leaves a positive footprint on every one of them.
Alyssa is a part of multiple clubs across Bellefonte High, including: Student Council, National Honor Society, Class Cabinet, Drama Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Turning Point USA, Key Club, and Raider Revolution. Other than school, she is also in multiple extracurriculars relating to her church. She is a member of the production team at Faith United Methodist Church, as well as the youth group there.
Alyssa expresses how she enjoys the different activities the organizations provide.
“I like the number of opportunities I have to do service projects, competitions, and conferences through these clubs,” she said.
Mr. Matthew McDermit, her Honors PreCalculus teacher, remembers how she brightened up the classroom while working toward her goals.
“Alyssa demonstrated a tremendous work ethic and always sought to be the best that she could be. Beyond being a terrific student, her outgoing personality was infectious,” he said.
He also enjoyed how involved she was in her classes, which benefited everyone in the class, including him.
“Alyssa challenged me to be a better writer. She consistently proofread my Honors PreCalc problem sets to find grammatical mistakes, which earned extra credit for her and her classmates,” he said.
Senior Payton Glass, a good friend and classmate of Alyssa, mentions how Alyssa helped her through their final year of high school.
“She has been encouraging to me when Senioritis kicks in. Her kindness has made a strong impact on my life,” Payton said.
Outside of school, Alyssa enjoys spending time with her family and pets. She likes to go on hikes and play board games with her family members.
The summer after graduation, Alyssa will attend Pennsylvania State University, where she will strive for a bachelor’s in Accounting.
Mr. McDermit believes that Alyssa has made a memorable impact on her teachers and classmates, even out of class time.
“I will miss Alyssa stopping by my room just to say hello or write some nonsense on my whiteboards,” he said.
Alyssa leaves with an important message as upcoming freshmen reach the high school next year.
“Work on your time management early on in high school, so you don’t get behind on your school work,” she said.
Alyssa will be missed as she graduates from this chapter of her life, but everyone will be cheering her on as she moves onto the next.
