Since her freshman year, Alyssa Hopkins has been a great student athlete here at Bellefonte Area High School. She’s on the cross country team as well as the track and field team. On top of being a multi-sport athlete, Alyssa excels in the classroom. Being at the top of her class and focusing heavily on academics, Alyssa will be taking these talents to Philadelphia to attend Drexel University to study mathematics.
She is a great teammate and overall person; one of her senior teammates, Alex Crist, can agree with this.
“Alyssa is a great companion on the track and an overall amazing supporter,” Alex said.
Her athletic talents are appreciated by both her teammates and coaches, but when it comes to academics this is where Alyssa really shines. Video Production teacher Mrs. Carla Cipro has seen Alyssa shine first hand within her classroom.
“Alyssa is a vibrant energy in class. She enjoys learning and is always willing to learn and participate. This helps to liven the atmosphere of almost any class that she is in,” Mrs. Cipro said.
Alyssa has had a lot of great memories here at Bellefonte over the years, but for her nothing beats her experience in the community garden with Mrs. Poorman.
“My favorite memory while attending Bellefonte High School had to be getting to help Mrs. Poorman last year with the community garden during the last few days of school,” Alyssa said.
Alyssa took classes with Agricultural Science teacher Mrs. Myken Poorman for two years. Mrs. poorman always enjoyed having her in class and has appreciated her dedicated work over the years.
“Alyssa is one of the hardest working students I know. She always went above and beyond and she took a lot of pride in her work. She was an excellent student and was also always willing to help others,” Mrs. Poorman said.
Over the years Mrs. Poorman has also made so many amazing memories with Alyssa that she will never forget.
“One thing I will never forget about Alyssa is that every day…I mean every day…she left my class, she always said, ‘Thank you Poorman!’ I truly believe she was thankful for her teachers and everything she learned,” Mrs. Poorman said.
Overall, Alyssa has had a great experience during her years at Bellefonte and has set herself up for a very exciting future. All of the friends she has made, teachers she’s had, and teammates she has bonded with will forever be a part of her. The students and staff of BAHS wish her luck as she says her goodbyes and goes off to do great things this upcoming fall.
“I will miss her smiling face. She was always very enthusiastic to learn new things and made every class better. She’s a true talent and I’m proud to say she was one of my students,” Mrs. Poorman said.
