Underclassman Prom is an evening that all high school students are eager to attend. The idea of dressing up, eating good food, and getting to dance with friends fills many with excitement.
The theme was Mama Mia-inspired, but specifically titled “Only One Night.” Class Cabinet had discussed a vision including disco balls and floral designs.
One of the highlights of Prom is that Miss Bellefonte is chosen. Junior Erin Ashe won this title this year.
“I was so happy, not just because I won Miss Bellefonte, but because I was following the footsteps of my best friend Kate [Harman], our 2023 Miss Bellefonte. I am proud to represent BAHS as Miss Bellefonte 2024,” Erin said.

Choosing to run for Miss Bellefonte can be a scary thought, but Erin was determined to do it.
“I chose to run for Miss Bellefonte because I want to represent my school. After seeing all of the amazing women who ran before me, I decided to put my name in,” Erin said.
The 2023 Miss Bellefonte, senior Kate Harman, was particularly thrilled to witness this accomplishment for her friend. Her favorite part of Prom was getting to be able to crown Erin.
“When Erin won Miss Bellefonte, I was overjoyed. Erin is an amazing young woman and I am extremely excited to see her be recognized. She is a talented, kind, smart, and sweet person, and is very deserving of her new title. Although I was sad to pass off my title, I couldn’t be happier to have Erin be my successor,” Kate said.
Planning Prom takes weeks of planning. Class President Annie Cernuska noted that Class Cabinet spent a lot of time picking out decorations during the weeks leading up to Prom, then quite a few hours setting everything up on Friday. The time they dedicated to planning Prom was well worth it, according to Annie.
“I personally enjoyed seeing so many students come together to just have a fun night of community despite all of the other craziness that the spring season brings. I also think having the shaved ice at prom turned out to be great,” Annie said.
Prom also offered a variety of fun activities for students to indulge in. Junior Brady Miller had an enjoyable time with these activities.
“Activity-wise, or course there was a DJ who I think did a really good job of choosing a mix of songs. Besides that, there was a shaved ice station and popcorn stand which I thought were great additions to the atmosphere. Also there was a photo station underneath a balloon arch which was fantastically constructed and I’m happy I didn’t break,” Brady said.
Government teacher and junior class advisor Mrs. Allyson Durney was excited to see that her hard work had paid off.
“It was great to see students having fun and enjoying themselves! All of their outfits were on point and everyone looked great,” she said.
