On Thursday, May 9, Bellefonte’s finest student artists had all of their hard work on display for everyone to see in the lobby of Bellefonte High.
Bellefonte students and staff were able to view the art on their way to and from classes the day before and the day of the art show, which was held from 5-7 p.m.
The Art Show occurs once a year towards the end of the school year. It is a display of student work from all of the art classes here at BAHS. Students in most art classes pick around four of their favorite art pieces to be on display during the show. The piece of art the students choose were either displayed on a table or on wooden displays in the main hallway.
During the show, many senior art students set up Senior Showcase tables where they display their work from having several years of art classes. Senior Makena Lake said her inspiration for her artwork over the past four years has been from her mom and her art teacher, Mrs. Erin Welsh.
“My favorite medium to work with would have to be colored pencil or a regular lead pencil. My biggest inspiration regarding my art would have to be my mom as well as Mrs. Welsh. Without both of their support I wouldn’t be where I am artistically,” Makena said.
She plans on studying art education in college at Kutztown University.
Senior Cameron Hane, another artist who set up a Senior Showcase, said she has been creating art since she’s been 5 years old.
“My favorite medium to work with in 2D is acrylic pain. I also really enjoy doing clay work and wheel throwing. My biggest inspiration for art would be Van Gogh’s 2D work and for 3D. I take inspiration from many artists, usually ones that I will see in art magazines or books such as Livia Marin and Zemer Peled, however, in all my work it is my own and I do not think I take inspiration from just one artist,” Cameron said.
After graduation, Cameron will be attending Penn State for Landscape Architecture and Architecture.
Senior Katelyn Packer, has been taking art classes pretty much her whole life and does not plan on ending that when she goes off to college.
“I have taken art classes all through high school and some of middle school. My favorite medium to work with is acrylic paint. I like how vivid the colors can be and that it is easy to work with. My biggest inspiration has been the things that I like. I enjoy making things that I know I will like because it is based off my interests. I plan to continue taking art classes in college because I have found that it is a good way for me to decompress and express myself freely,” Katelyn said.
