Senior Liam Halterman at Bellefonte High (BHS) continue to take bigger and better roles in a lot of different places throughout the years whether it be in the community, on the football field, or basketball court. Liam Halterman has been having a good season on the field and with the season coming to an end, he will look to keep the momentum going on the basketball court.
The senior quarterback and defensive back has been seeing some big numbers on the field whether it be passing or rushing, and has also been playing well defensively for the Red Raiders.
“The school year has been going great, and football has been going even better,” Liam said.
Liam brings a very good trait to the teams he plays with. Liam always picks his teammates up when they need it and delivers when his team needs him most which has earned multiple Raider of the week (ROW) awards throughout his senior season.
“I like to lead by example so I try my best every Friday night to be the one people see and acknowledge that I am a leader,” Liam said.
As the Red Raider football team sits at 5-3 right now with some tough losses to Bishop Guilfoyle 41-7, Clearfield 28-14, and Bishop McCort 28-0, Liam and the Red Raiders have made plenty of noise in PIAA football already this season.
Starting in week one they would knock off the powerful Central Dragons team who blew Bellefonte out only a year ago 49-0 ; the final score this time around being 18-7. They would go on to take down Chestnut Ridge 28-11.
The next three wins for the Red Raiders would be some very big ones getting some long awaited revenge as the the Red Raiders would take down Penns Valley for the first time in seven years;they would go on to back the win up with a road victory over a power house team Bald Eagle 21-12 and the first time Bellefonte beat them in four years returning the Curtin Bowl back home in Bellefonte.
The most recent win for Bellefonte was over the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineerson homecoming night where Liam would play an amazing game going 10-11 on completions, 252 passing yards, and throwing three touchdown passes while also rushing for a touchdown. The Red Raiders would go on to defeat the Mountaineers 43-0 bringing the Luther Trophy back to Bellefonte.
With the season nearing an end here soon as Bellefonte only has two more games left in the regular season a home game against Huntingdon for senior night and an away game, the LHAC (Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference) crossover game, which the opponent won’t be known about until after the game Friday night.
Liam has made a huge impact on many of his teammates in both of the sports he does and a lot of his friends.
“He’s a great friend, he’s always there for me when I need it and it’s nice knowing he has my back all of the time. Liam has also helped me develop as a quarterback because I am his backup and he’s always there for me when I have a bad practice,” sophomore Quinn Park said.
Liam still has a huge goal that he wants to check off, that is to lead the Red Raiders to a District championship win and look to make a run deep into the state playoffs where the Red Raiders can make even more noise in the high school football world.
“One of my final goals really left is to win a district championship and just go as far as we can as a team into states,” Liam said.
Once the football season ends, Liam will look to accomplish similar goals with the Bellefonte Red Raiders basketball team and continue his crucial role of being a leader and bringing more hardware back to Bellefonte.
After high school Liam plans to go to the University of Lock Haven and attend their PA program and continue to make Bellefonte proud.
