The Curtin Bowl is a highly anticipated football game between Bellefonte and Bald Eagle High that has happened every year since 1981. These cross-valley rivals go head to head in a heated battle for the patented Curtin Bowl Trophy.
This year, on Friday, September 27, the Bellefonte Red Raiders came out on top 21-12, making it back-to-back wins for the Raiders, increasing their record to 4-2. This also marked their first Curtin Bowl win since the 2020 season.
Bellefonte came out on top at the start of the game, being the first to score and never looking back. Bellefonte would score first with senior Liam Halterman punching in a quarterback sneak, followed by a PAT from senior Andy Gerasenko, making the score 7-0.
Bellefonte was lock down on defense, stopping the Eagles and capitalizing on it with their next offensive drive, quarterback Liam Halterman found sophomore Ashton Howell wide open for a 34-yard touchdown pass, this again was followed by another PAT from Andy Gerasenko, extending the Raiders’ lead to 14-0.
Although they would give up a touchdown later in the game to make the score 14-6, the Raiders would respond with a huge 47-yard run from running back junior Isaac Gall, further blowing open this game. This was followed up by another PAT from Andy Gerasenko, making the score 21-6. This score gave the Raiders some extra cushion as the Eagles would score one last time, making the score 21-12.
On one last drive, Bald Eagle would be stuck at the 50 yard-line on a fourth down. The Raider defense would come up with a big stop to force a turnover on downs. From there, the Raiders would return to the run game, eventually running out the clock and securing the big victory for the Bellefonte Red Raiders.
With playoffs on their way and the season coming to a close, Bellefonte looks to add to a historic comeback season as they head into the playoffs.
