Senior at Bellefonte High (BHS) Annie Cernuska has been a leader on the soccer field, leading the Bellefonte Lady Raiders to a 10-4 record so far in the season and looking for a second district title in a row.
Annie has accomplished many things in her life, whether it be sport or not, but there is one thing that she is most proud of, and that is delivering the Lady Raiders to their first district championship in school history.
“I have been most proud of winning the first ever district championship in school history with my team last year. This season I am most proud of the way our team has worked together and bonded to be the best versions of ourselves,” Annie said.
Annie is also one of the leaders of the girls’ track and field team, which has seen a lot of success as a whole recently, and she is one of the leaders in the distance runners’ group, helping the teams set multiple different school records and place in many different meets.
As her senior soccer season is coming to an end, she has a big goal of taking the Lady Raiders back to the district championship game and winning it for the second year in a row.
“My goal for this year is to help lead the team to another district title in soccer!” Annie said.
We see the possibility of Annie winning two district titles in one year as the Lady Raider soccer team has a good shot at going for two in a row and the girls’ track team is religiously in the top three in districts.
After the soccer season ends, Annie will be gearing up for an indoor track season this winter. Although the indoor team is not an official school sport, they are still associated with Bellefonte as a club team, and then she will look to make some noise come the outdoor season as well.
Annie will always be a teammate who is there for everyone on the team and a role model her teammates can look up to.
“She’s a really nice teammate and super thoughtful. She always puts herself first and as a team captain she makes sure everyone is taken care of before herself. She also brings a positive vibe to our team,” sophomore Reese Manning said.
While Annie has had plenty of success in sports, no matter what it is, her success in the classroom and the community as a whole is just as important if not even more important than what she has accomplished. Annie is known to be in the running for Bellefonte’s valedictorian come graduation time this year for the Class of 2025.
Annie’s decisions after high school are still undetermined, but she does know that she plans to attend college after everything is said and done in Bellefonte. She plans to partake in the Physician’s Assistant program.
