As Bellefonte wishes business teacher Mr. Ryan Myers the best in his new position at State High, the students of Bellefonte can’t help but wonder how the teacher taking his place is feeling. Mrs. Barbara Stoicheff steps up to the plate to take on the new challenge of Mr. Myers’ classes.
Mrs. Stoicheff comes from a small private high school where she taught mainly English courses, some business electives, and was the yearbook and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) advisor. She appreciates the welcoming feeling the students, faculty, and staff have shown to her, especially since coming from a much smaller school to our school is a big switch that may be overwhelming. Even though the school is bigger, students are still going to be helpful and make her feel comfortable in a new environment.
“Mrs. Stoicheff hasn’t been here for long, but I already love getting her third period coffee,” sophomore Althea “Thea” Helms said.
Although Mrs. Stoicheff taking over the business education classes might not be a big switch for the students, given the curriculum is the same, but for her, this is a major shift.
“Switching schools is never an easy task, and since I started halfway into the school year, I am a little overwhelmed and stressed,” Mrs. Stoicheff said.
With taking over all the business classes, Stoicheff finds herself constantly swimming with work. Some of these courses include entrepreneur mindset, career connection and job skills, sports marketing and management, intro to business, and becoming a millionaire.
“I think I would change how many classes I currently teach. Sometimes, when you are trying to do too much, you can’t do it as well as you’d like,” she said.
Throughout it all she is grateful to her students, who are well engaged. In previous years, she had some of the same students again and again, allowing her to connect with them and find creative ways to keep them engaged. Creating bonds like this, we can imagine how hard it might’ve been to leave her old school.
“It was difficult leaving my previous school because I had many of them since they were freshmen,” Mrs. Stoicheff said.
Even though she may be missing some of her old students, Bellefonte students are excited to make new memories, connect with her, and welcome her to Bellefonte.
