Kicking off his Leather tour, Cody Johnson made his appearance at the Bryce Jordan Center on Saturday November 16. Johnson performed alongside special guests Braxton Keith and Ashley Mcbryde.
The Leather tour began in January of 2024 where he began his journey with Jon Pardi. The album was yet another exceptional record featuring 12 songs, some of which would become his biggest hits. Recently Johnson added 13 new songs to the deluxe album, including, “The Fall,” “How Do You Sleep At Night,” and “The Mustang.”
A few of his old country style songs can be found on this album; Johnson is bringing country back in its most vulnerable form. Some of these heart-wrenching songs are “Watching My Old Flame,” “The Painter,” and “Dirt Cheap.”
Born and raised in Huntsville, Texas, Johnson has been involved in the music industry since the age of twelve when he formed his own band. Since his career took off he has released six albums including Gotta be Me which hit number two on Billboard’s Country Album rankings. He later released Ain’t Nothin To It which engraved his name in lights and proved he was more than a one hit wonder.
The 37 year-old is happily married to Brandi Johnson and raising his two young daughters, Clara Mae, and Cori. As a well-known family man, Johnson and his family are living the American Dream on a ranch in East Texas. Both of his daughters grew up on stage as their family’s “home away from home” is a tour bus. The singer includes many references to his faith, his family, and his life lessons in his music, often accentuating the “good” things in life. His lyrics include sentimental moments often revolving around his daughters and wife, as well as his journey in the music industry.
Some of his most personal, relatable songs are “C’mon Cowgirl,” “People In The Back,” “God Bless The Boy (Cori’s Song),” and “Diamond In My Pocket.” When performing at the Bryce Jordan Center, Johnson made tributes to his family, frontline officers, military, etc. He also took a few minutes to recognize the presidential election while playing “God Bless America.”
In my opinion, this concert was beautifully performed. Cody Johnson is such a genuine artist as he praises everything that got him to this point in his career, and enlightens every heart in the room. He dedicates every song he sings to a cause or a story giving each lyric a special meaning. Performing on such a diverse college campus, the singer reunited the crowd with the most heartwarming gesture as he exited the stage.
“WE ARE!” Johnson said.
