Once again, the Bellefonte Class of 2025 hosts their second blood drive to donate all they can to the American Red Cross and save countless lives.
The Class of 2025 is no stranger to hosting blood drives, as just last year they held their very first in the Bellefonte High’s gymnasium. It would be there that they would raise 30 pints of blood from the students and staff. This school year, they aim to topple that milestone with their two blood drives.
“We’re hoping to use both blood drives to help exceed that goal,” Class advisor and senior English teacher Mrs. Kelley Kreiger said.
Preparing a blood drive is no easy work, but the rewards from doing a drive is worth it. The Class of 2025’s Class Cabinet worked closely together to set up and manage the drive.
According to the American Red Cross’s website, every two seconds, someone in the U.S needs blood to be donated. This results in over 29,000 red blood cells to be needed in just one day. The Red Cross provides around 40% of the needed blood to save lives, and the blood goes a long way. Blood donations save more than just one life, and can help combat diseases such as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and Diamond Blackfan anemia.
“It’s a very fulfilling feeling, it makes me feel like I am changing the world,” senior Evelyn “Evie” St. Amant said.
Hosting a blood drive teaches teamwork, leadership, and represents Bellefonte’s community as a whole. As this is senior Annie Cernuska’s first blood drive, she has a lot to adjust to. As managing a blood drive takes hard work, she needs to be able to work under pressure.
The blood from the Class of 2025’s blood drive won’t go to waste, and will go on to save countless humans who are in desperate need.
