Is the progression of technology moving too quickly? Some people love the use of AI, while others try to avoid it. Many teachers have discovered new ways to use technology in the classroom here at Bellefonte High (BAHS).
“I do think the progression of technology is moving way too quickly. I think it is going to do more harm than good – at all age levels,” Video Production teacher Mrs. Carla Cipro said.
While AI can be helpful, it can also be harmful to the environment, according to NTIA. There are also many risks people can take with AI. For example, there are safety and security concerns as well as misleading information. Most AI systems state that they can make mistakes, but how will we know if they mess up?
“While I do think that technology is progressing at a rapid speed, I also think that it’s important for students to understand that progression and be capable of using the most up-to-date features, including AI,” senior English teacher Mrs. Kelly Kreiger said.
Technology can be scary but it’s very important to learn about and use it properly before college and careers. Many teachers at BHS use technology in the classrooms to prepare students for their futures.
“I am sure that there is a lot of good in just about all technology, because it will help to improve lives which is the purpose of engineering and technology,” Technology education teacher Mr. Jonathan Mayes said.
Another resource frequently used is Canva, which is a design website used for projects. AI is also included in Canva which proves to show it is spreading quickly.
“I think it is a great way to get creative with your work,” sophomore Madison Kellogg said.
While Canva can be creative and efficient, the usage of AI within it is definitely a concern. The image creator can be used in the wrong ways or projects can be done with no effort at all. Although there are lots of concerns with AI, Canva is reliable when it comes to technology.
“It makes my job easier because I can create something professional looking with little to no effort. It’s a huge time saver! Plus, my students enjoy the creative nature of the slideshows,” sophomore English teacher Mrs. Sarah Bryan said.
Even though technology is improving quickly and can be harmful, it is a helpful and intelligent tool to use in the classroom to help students succeed in their futures.
