Bellefonte High’s indoor track team competed in the 10th annual Ocean Breeze Invitational in Staten Island, New York. There were over 10,000 entries of some of the best indoor track competitors in the Northeastern U.S. and a few of our own student-athletes were able to compete in such an intense meet. The track meet took place during the first and second of February, and the overall outcome was a success for Bellefonte.
Senior Zane Hummel, senior Kaiden Williams, and freshman Jonathan Gasper all competed on February 1. Zane placed fourth in the Long Jump with a new indoor personal record (PR) of 22 feet and 5.75 inches. He placed seventh in the Triple Jump with 42 feet and 7.75 inches; beating Bellefonte High School’s school record. The next day on February 2, senior Annie Cernuska, junior Addie Fry, junior Madyson Miller, junior Natalie Jolley, and sophomore Althea Helms competed against some of the top runners from several states.
The girl’s 4x800m team consisting of Annie, Addie, Natalie, and Althea ran a new indoor school record of 10:31.33 placing them in eleventh place.
“The 4×8 is always a fun race to run, especially with this team because everyone gets super hyped for each other,” Addie said.
Annie and Natalie both ran in the Blue Division Mile with a total of 69 runners. Both runners placed new PRs with Annie’s time being 6:10.70 and Natalie’s time being 5:50.41. Madyson competed in the White Division Triple Jump where she placed eighth with a distance of 30 feet and 7.5 inches.
“It was such a shock, and a major relief to have performed well, as the season started off rough for me,” Althea said.
Bellefonte High’s indoor track team is grateful for the opportunity to compete in such an intense meet, and is proud of the overall outcome of the student-athletes.
