The BAHS Drama Club will be performing Fiddler on the Roof on April 3, 4, and 5 at Bellefonte High.
“I think this production has more emotional depth and maturity to it than other ones we have done before, and it is such a different switch from the shows we have been doing,” senior Erin Ashe said.
This musical takes place in 1905, in the Jewish community of Anatevka, Ukraine. It follows the story of Tevye who is a poor milkman, his wife Golde, and their five daughters, as the family is forced to navigate through rough times and the prosecution of the Russian Government. The story challenges ideals such as what tradition should mean to a community, and how far someone should go for their home.
Performing in their last musical are seniors Erin Ashe and Nicholas “Nick” Baptista.
“I would not say I am excited that it is my last musical, but it does give me more reason to make it my best one. However, I am happy to see what future productions Bellefonte puts on,” Erin said.
“I am very excited for this production, but am not excited that this is my last production with Bellefonte. I am new to Drama and wish I could keep performing,” Nick said.
However, the story also features other side characters such as Tzietel, the oldest of Teyve’s five daughters who finds herself with an unfavorable match, played by senior Cordelia McCoy.
“Everyone is like family in this show, and I’m so happy with everyone’s progress!” Cordelia said.
Actors alone cannot make up the show by themselves. The cast needs a crew to help with tasks such as scene changes, lighting, and working the sound system. Senior Kayla “Kay” Miller leads the lighting crew to help illuminate the stage and provide support for the actors.
“Fiddler on the Roof was challenging to light, but it was a lot of fun!” Kay said.
Senior Ava McNeal, the student director, has worked alongside the cast since the very beginning of their rehearsal.
“I’m so proud of all of the cast and crew work to bring this show together,” Ava said.
The Drama Club’s stage is transformed into the town of Anatevka, which will open up on April 3 (7:00 p.m.), 4 (7:00 p.m.), and 5 (1:00 p.m and 7:00 p.m.).
