Artist Tyler the Creator has skyrocketed to fame in the music industry in the past two to three years with his trademark ability to layer his music. Tyler recently released his newest album Chromakopia in October of 2024, followed by Chromakopia: The World Tour kick off on February 4.
The tour started at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Tyler plans to travel across Australia, Europe, North America, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. He will finish in Quezon City at the Araneta Coliseum. Lucky us, Tyler played in Pittsburgh on March 28 at the Pittsburgh Penguins Paints Arena, and will play in Philadelphia on July 5 and 6 at the Well Fargo Center. If you’re also a fan of Paris Texas and Lil Yachty, they are booked to open for Tyler at every show!
A concert typically lasts 3.5 hours, with an hour dedicated to openers. With the success of the album drop, Tyler usually plays to sold out crowds of around 1500 fans. The entire tour is sponsored by AEG Presents. Ticket prices start at $233 and reach up to $700.
A student at Bellefonte who managed to get tickets was senior Cordelia McCoy. She was most excited to see Tyler up on-stage because,
“He’s a real vibe and I think he’s really unique,” said Cordelia. She was also looking forward to dressing up for the concert herself, because fans of Tyler like to dress as different characters from his albums.
“Every song is a different story that’s written in a unique and relatable way. I think his music reflects what most people think but can’t say out loud, and that’s what makes it special,” said Cordelia as she looked forward to the concert on March 28, in Pittsburgh.
Back in 2024, Chromakopia made number one on the Billboard Top 200 list within the first five days of debut. It also set a record on Spotify for the largest rap and hip-hop album debut in 2024 by surpassing 85 million first-day streams. The album did not receive any Grammy nominations, but it is worth being noted that the album was released past the eligibility date for 2025 nominations, August 31. Hopefully, Tyler will see his album as a Grammy’s contender next year.
Tyler the Creator’s music is considered to be many different genres including, alternative or West Coast hip-hop, neo-soul, and jazz-rap. Chromakopia itself tells the story of Tyler’s childhood. It talks about his father’s absence and even specific things his mother told him when he was younger, according to Black and White.
As Tyler moves through Chromakopia: The World Tour Bellefonte is thrilled to of had the chance to see him in Pittsburgh on March 28th!
