As per tradition, the Rock Studio class held their mid-term concert on March 28, at 7 p.m. in the BAHS auditorium. With the switch to an evening performance, the performing students got ready to step onto the stage and share their music to the rest of the community.
Rock Studio, an elective offered to anyone interested, is a semester-long class that primarily takes place in the second half of a school year. The class itself is run by Band Director and music teacher Mr. Jeremiah Dobo, and is usually a student-led course.
Every year, for the class’s mid-term and final, they perform a small concert for students and staff to attend. But this year, due to a schedule shift, their usual performance time was switched to a 7 p.m opening as opposed during a Raider Period study hall.
“Originally we were all pretty upset with our concert getting cancelled, but we all agree that the concert being at 7 p.m. just felt right, and ended up better than we thought a raider period concert would go,” senior Avery North said.
Some students performing in the concert were seniors drummer Alex Baptista, vocalist, keyboard and guitar player Nick Baptista, guitar player and vocalist Cole Dermota, sound designer, drummer, and percussionist Matrix Mokluk, bass player Avery North, bass player and vocalist Haley Way, and junior guitar player Eli Rushton, alongside other students.
One of the pleasures of the class is the freedom in choosing which songs you want to perform. Some favorites were “Bring me to Life” by Evanescence, “Duality” by SlipKnot, and “St. Jimmy” by Green Day.
“[“St. Jimmy”] was very fun to learn and get to perform with my friends. There are a few of us in the class who like Green Day, so we chose this song to play!” Haley said.
As performing goes, one of the lingering questions afterwards for any performer is whether or not their concert was good, and if they’re satisfied with the results. This was no exception for the students of Rock Studio.
“I am definitely satisfied with the concert, as we had a good turn out and all of our songs went well, besides some technical difficulties,” Nick said.
The Rock Studio midterm concert was a smash-hit to the community, and the students of the class prepare to put on their final concert.
“Be sure to come to our next concert! It’ll be advertised more around the school earlier rather than the week of, and so far, the set list is pretty great. I’ll see you there!” Avery said.
