For the past few months, Bellefonte High’s students had been planning their outfits and promposals. However, all of this planning came to an end on May 3, as underclassmen held their Prom, and on May 17, as seniors celebrated the night with their Senior Ball.
Prom, hosted by the Class of 2026, was a night themed around Disney’s movie, Tangled, full of dancing, food, and the announcement of the new Miss Bellefonte. Upon entering the school, students could take advantage of the themed backdrop with lanterns and vines all over it. As students ventured farther into the building, they could enjoy food from the table in the cafeteria full of cupcakes, chips, water, and even a snow cone machine.
The main event was held in the gym, where there was a DJ in the corner and flashing lights all around to set the mood. One student who attended was junior Logan Rarrick and his date, junior Addie Fry. Logan’s favorite moment was “recreating a photo with my buddies from another Prom,” where they made more good memories.
What many would consider to be the main event of Prom, the announcement of Miss Bellefonte, started around 8 p.m., with the title going to junior Breanna Dickey, escorted by Cameron Lucas. She claims she didn’t expect to win with all of the “tough competition.”
“No matter who won, I would have been beyond happy for them and knew they would represent Bellefonte amazingly!” Breanna said.
She decided to run because she has grown up around many past Miss Bellefontes who told her she would be “a good fit in the legacy.” Her biggest support system was her family who gave her all the materials she needed, former Miss Bellefonte science teacher Mrs. Armani Davy, who helped her put her resume together, and senior Erin Ashe, another former Miss Bellefonte, who motivated her to run.
“What truly meant the most to me was that my friends, family, and teachers reassured me that no matter what would happen, I am a good human and a crown does not define who I am!” Breanna said.
Now that she has won, Breanna has a packed year ahead of her. She will attend Flaming Foliage next October, where she will compete against other school representatives as well as the Homecoming Parade, Grange Fair Parade, and more community service events. Breanna feels that even with her busy schedule coming, she would 100% run for Miss Bellefonte again.
“I live by the motto ‘YOLO’… whether it be stepping onto the world competition floor representing the USA, to stepping out of my comfort zone in school to join a new club. It seems like a silly quote, but it truly is what it means,” Breanna said.
Two weeks after Prom, the Class of 2025 would make many good memories during their Senior Ball held on May 17 at Robbins’ Paradise Ranch in Julian.
Senior Evie St. Amant made many good memories this year, but Senior Ball was one of her favorite nights of the year.
“Being able to spend the night with all of my friends and teachers one last time before we graduate,” was Evie’s favorite part of the night.
Senior Ruthann Smoyer’s favorite part was “watching Aden Auman and his friends try to charge a bison.”
If you missed out on the fun this year, make sure you get your tickets to next year’s Prom or Senior Ball to make last memories with your high school friends.
