During the summer break, former English teacher and Journalism supervisor, Mrs. Jessica Lloyd resigned from Bellefonte High, a statement that shocked both current and former students of hers.
Mrs. Lloyd was a teacher at Bellefonte High for 14 years, and taught originally at Lewistown High for three years beforehand. After teaching seniors for those 17 years, Mrs. Lloyd now teaches seventh-graders.
“It was a huge jump in classroom management styles, but I’m figuring it out pretty quickly,” she said, “I hope my seventh-graders are entertained by my awkwardness.”
Changing districts is also a major change for teachers; however, Mrs. Lloyd seems to have settled down in the State College district.
“I wanted to work in the district that my baby girl will eventually attend. I also live in this district and love this district,” Mrs. Lloyd said.
Naturally, with leaving behind a past life of teaching, Mrs. Lloyd misses parts of her former district, specifically her former colleagues, her students, and the staff of the Red & White.
“All of those relationships took time to build and I do miss them very much,” she said.
Despite being close to Bellefonte, Mrs. Lloyd still reminisces about the town, the district, and the community as a whole.
“Bellefonte High is a special place and I never took that for granted. I knew it was special, even when I was there. I’ve shared so many laughs with teachers, students, and administrators in that building,” she said.
Not only will her students miss her, but other staff members and colleagues think back to their memories with Mrs. Lloyd, and English teacher Mrs. Kelley Kreiger is no exception.
“Mrs. Lloyd was a constant delight. Her silliness and sincere love for her students will be missed. As much as she will be missed, we are all so excited for her to start her new chapter at State High,” Mrs Kreiger said.
In her 14 years of teaching, Mrs. Lloyd has learned a lot of lessons from other staff, students, admins, and even from just her experience.
“Don’t be afraid to come out of your comfort zone and make changes to your life, including your career. You only get one life to live, so make the most of it!”
Even though she is not in the building, Mrs. Lloyd’s impact on the school remains ever strong, and her colleagues, students, and former staff wish her well on her next endeavors.
