Every single person in Happy Valley is chomping at the bit for the 2025 Penn State football season. Penn State holds a second place spot in the national rankings from the first week following into the second (highest ranking since 2016). Trailing behind the defending national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes have a 2-0 lead putting up roughly 74 points in the first two weeks and they now have a number one national ranking after beating the number one team, Texas Longhorns in week one. Penn State also has a 2-0 lead putting up nearly 80 points in the first two weeks to kickoff the College Football League.
Many people think that Penn State has a lot to prove this year. There are some big games that Penn State needs to win such as on September 27th when the Nittany Lions go up against the University of Oregon, a rematch of the college football playoff semifinals. The outcome can heavily influence the Nittany Lions path to the College Football playoffs. This game will be the biggest of the year by far and will make a statement that will flow through College Football.
Penn State fans are always waiting for the moment when PSU plays Ohio State University. Ohio State, the defending national champions, is looking for a repeat championship run. But some are thinking that Penn State will not make it past Ohio State in the playoffs as a whole.
¨I´m gonna go with Ohio State to win the natty,” freshman Peyton Smith said.
On November first, Penn State will play last year’s defending champions the Ohio State Buckeyes. The game is away in Columbus, Ohio which will be the most crucial test for them on the road. The victory would be a great win for head coach James Franklin. Penn State has not beat the Buckeyes in Columbus since 2011.
People were expecting to have a whole new landscape of players on the roster this season. Many thought star quarterback Drew Allar and star running back Nicholas Singleton would opt to go to the 2025 NFL Draft, but the two decided to stay in Happy Valley another year, while Penn State has a new defensive coordinator from Ohio State, Jim Knowles. They have chosen four-star corner Jahmir Joseph, four-star defensive tackle Owen Wafle, and four-star wide receiver Koby Howard. They will all be great assets to the new team who will go and give it their all.
Returning players that didn’t go off early to the draft include Drew Allar, and Nick Singleton, who were both great assets to the Penn State football team last year with Allar having 3,560 total yards with 30 touchdowns, while Singleton had 862 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 188 carries. Both Allar and Singleton have combined stats at over 4,500 yards and 48 touchdowns.
Penn State will be all in it this season with new coaches, more talented players, and upcoming prospects for the team. The weight that Penn State football has on their shoulders this year is beyond challenging. The task is the same. It’s up to them to deliver.
