New English and Journalism teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Benson, has been teaching seniors from the start. The transition from Cornerstone Prep in Pittsburgh to Bald Eagle Area (BEA) and now Bellefonte High (BHS) has been smooth, thanks to the help of students and staff.
“My family and I met her and her family at the school and helped her move into her classroom,” Health and Gym teacher Mr. Allan Miller said.
Mrs. Benson plans to connect with her students here at BHS and learn about the “ropes.” She hopes that the Journalism class can teach her a few things since she has not taught it before.
“I am so thankful for the wonderful students who have been showing me how the website, newspaper, and social media accounts work. I couldn’t do it without them!” She said.
All of the Journalism students are thankful to her as well for taking on the responsibility, even though this is her first year doing it.
The previous schools she has worked at had different programs and procedures from BHS, which has been a difficult part of the transition for her, but she is adjusting to the daily routines.
“I’ve heard about and witnessed in detail how thoughtful she is and the amount of time she pours into what she does,” Mr. Miller said.
She is described by past students as an “overachiever.” She can also be described as determined, organized, empathetic, and compassionate.
“It doesn’t take long to know that she genuinely cares. She’s a good listener and is supportive. My wife has a great friend in Mrs. Benson. She values meaningful and purposeful conversations over surface-level interactions,” Mr. Miller said.
She truly is dedicated, and BHS is lucky to have Mrs. Benson, among other new teachers, this school year.
