You know her name, because chances are she’s said “hello” to you in the hallway. A bright, smiling face, Annie Cernuska is a senior here at Bellefonte High. Throughout her high school career, she has been a member of the varsity soccer team and the track team. She is the valedictorian and a published author, and is also the class president for the Class of 2025.
“She achieves so much because she pushes herself. As valedictorian, class president, and so much more, she gives it her all,” senior Ruthann Smoyer said.
Annie plans to attend Duke University this fall to major in Biology with a minor in Medical Sociology to pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant.
Annie is described as a leader and an amazing friend by her peers.
“I love Annie. She is a hilarious friend and amazing company. She’s fun to be around and is such a nice person” senior Ruthann Smoyer said.
Annie says that she enjoyed high school.
“I have enjoyed the many lessons I have learned, both in life and academically, as well as all of the people I’ve had the opportunity to connect with,” Annie said.
Annie has left an amazing reputation behind her at Bellefonte High, leading by example to many and inspiring so many students. As her senior year comes to an end, it’s safe to say that she has left an amazing impact and legacy on Bellefonte High.
“While I am glad that high school is almost over, I will miss the teachers and friends that have made this school special to me,” she said.
Annie makes a point to have good relationships with her peers and teachers, being referred to as, “just a nice person” by many. One teacher she holds very close to her heart is English teacher Mrs. Kelly Kreiger, who reciprocates the appreciation for Annie.
“Annie is involved in so many activities, clubs, and sports at Bellefonte, but seems to juggle them all flawlessly. She was always willing to take on a leadership role when necessary, but also willing to help her peers when they were in charge,” Mrs. Kreiger said, who has worked with Annie over the years as she served as one of the Class of 2025 Advisors, along with Government teacher Mrs. Allyson Durney.
Mrs. Durney echoes these sentiments.
“Annie is such an upbeat, dedicated student. Not only does she put her best effort forward in everything she does, but she does so with a huge smile on her face. I love that Annie would always try and help her peers with difficult material and was never afraid to ask for help. I know her positive outlook will help her go far in life,” Mrs. Durney said.
Another teacher that Annie holds close to her heart is Government teacher Mr. Edward Fitzgerald, who has witnessed Annie’s strong character.
“Annie is a strong independent and empathetic individual. These are traits that will carry her far,” Mr. Fitzgerald said.
One article will never sum up all the things Annie Cernuska has done for this school, but she will be greatly missed by her friends and teachers as she moves on to bigger and better things at Duke University.
