The rapid approach of summer means new movie releases, one of which being Devil Wears Prada 2 which released May 1 of this year.
With stars such as Meryl Streep as Miranda, Anne Hathaway as Andy, and Emily Blunt as Emily, the movie takes place after the events of the first. The main character, Andy Sachs, is now working as a reporter in NYC. Not for long, however, because she loses her job and is soon brought back to the world of runway. As the story continues, she has to navigate through various struggles such as the loss of her job, her new relationship, and being met to face her old boss. Andy goes through the movie trying to maintain balance between these things, while trying to pave her way as a journalist.
There were many mixed reviews about the movie, with many critics saying that it would be difficult to understand or follow the plot if you haven’t watched the first movie. On the other side, many critics praise the star actors, saying that their performance in the movie was stunning. One of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes stated that the movie felt like “a reunion,” expressing their enjoyment of the sequel.
In similarity, the audience was full of mixed reviews. Many of the spectators said that the movie had an amazing mix of comedy, as well as drama. Many say that the movie was far better than the first, with one person saying that they didn’t think the first movie was great. Tons of reviews, however, disagree with those statements and thought that the movie was slow, with the ending being underwhelming.
Personally, I watched the movie in order to give it an honest review. To follow along I had to watch the first for context. The movie was a perfect mix of comedy and drama. However, I feel that the plot moved at a slower pace than a typical movie would have. I found it difficult to follow what was happening at some points, but those are my only critiques. Other than that, I found the movie humorous, as well as enjoyable to watch for the most part. Overall, I would recommend this movie to those who enjoy comedic dramas.
Devil Wear Prada 2 earned an industry award nomination, with many speculating that some of the actors will receive nominations for acting and costume design.
