Save Mariah Carey for December
By MADISON HOLZERMAN
It’s November 1 and autumn lingers in the air. There are falling leaves on the ground in shades of orange and yellow. The crisp air leaves your cheeks red, and your nose frozen. As you walk into your house the smell of warm apple pie welcomes you with open arms, and an even warmer welcome from the family who makes your house a home. Does this sound like Christmas to you? Probably not, because November is for Thanksgiving.
Christmas may be the most anticipated holiday in America, but that doesn’t mean we should throw Thanksgiving out the window the moment Halloween is over. Thanksgiving is an important holiday to celebrate togetherness with friends and family. For many people, it is the one day when all of their family they don’t see throughout the year comes together and share memories.
Not only are we celebrating family, but it also is a time to reflect on all of the wonderful things you are thankful for in your life. It’s a good reminder to stop looking at all the bad in the world for a second and think positively.
I love Christmas as much as anyone else, but there is a whole month to celebrate Christmas. Why rush things? Take in the moment and breathe in the fall air. Enjoy the little things that only come around during autumn, such as going outside without a coat, pumpkin-scented candles, fall desserts, seasonal drinks, the leaves falling off of the trees, as well as the red and orange colors the world is painted for what seems only a brief second.
Fall is a short season in itself, we have almost four months of winter to be freezing, drinking hot cocoa, wearing leggings under our jeans, and playing in the snow. Celebrate the short two-and-a-half months of autumn we have. Save Mariah Carey for December 1, not November 1.
November is for Christmas
By ANDREW GALL
Christmas awaits us as we desperately wait for this year’s first snowstorm. I don’t know about you, but I’m hyped for Christmas. Who has time to worry about Thanksgiving when the year’s best holiday is right around the corner?
During Christmas, you get to be around family and friends. Presents are exchanged and everyone is in a good mood, so who wouldn’t want to start the festivities earlier? November and December belong to Christmas. What even is there to celebrate during Thanksgiving? We should give thanks every day, not just be designated to one day of the year which also happens to somewhat shorten the anticipation and celebration of Christmas.
Thanksgiving can be fun and all, but Christmas is an all-around more celebrated holiday and should start in November. According to a YouGov poll, only 13% of people dislike Christmas so if you don’t enjoy Christmas, you’re in the minority.
Snow is for winter and winter is for Christmas, so when it snows in November and everybody’s houses are already decorated with lights, inflatable Santas, and plastic reindeer, I think it’s safe to say that it is quite obvious that Christmas time is here.
