From book to screen, the movie Regretting You has recently hit the theaters with their audience calling it a rewarding, heartfelt movie. The critics however can’t say the same.
Regretting you is a movie based on the popular book Regretting you, written by Colleen Hoover. The movie is about a mother, Morgan, and her daughter, Clara, who are trying to navigate their life after a tragic accident that kills Clara’s father and Morgan’s sister. After the devastating loss, Moran turns to her deceased sister’s husband for support while her daughter turns to the town’s bad boy, Miller Adams. The movie explores themes of grief, love, and relationships as the characters in the film try to rebuild their normal lives while uncovering deep family secrets in the process.
Sounds interesting, right? Well, many people who have seen the movie would agree, saying that it was a heartwarming story that they enjoyed. One review of Rotten Tomatoes said they enjoyed the main actors of the film, however, what do the critics think about the apparent touching movie?
Critics have stated that this movie was just another basic romance movie with nothing new about it. One critic even stated that the movie would “aggravate anyone with a low tolerance for easily resolvable misunderstandings persist” on Rotten Tomatoes. Many of them have even stated that the movie was a fairly standard and mild movie to watch.
If that seems like a dramatic change from what the audience said, then wait until you see the ratings each group gave this movie.
On Rotten Tomato alone, the critics have given the movie a 28%. That is a significant difference from the rating that the audience gave the movie, which was 85%. This generally means that the overall viewers enjoyed the movie or at least found it somewhat pleasing, while the critics didn’t find it to be the highest of quality. Why the big change though? Well this could be because critics look for key elements, such as a good plot and story structure, while a normal viewer might not look as far into it.
At the end of the day, this could be considered a cheesy romance movie with no plot to some, while others may find joy in watching romantic dramas with some warm tea and buttery popcorn.
