The Bellefonte volleyball and wrestling teams came together for a good cause, and had fun while doing it.

On Wednesday, November 6 at 7 p.m., the Bellefonte volleyball team, wrestlers, parents, and teachers played volleyball games in the main gym at BAHS. There were two games: JV volleyball vs. parents and teachers, and Varsity volleyball vs. wrestling. This charity event was to raise money for a volleyball member’s mother battling cancer.

This is not the first time they have had this event. In 2015, the wrestlers won, and in 2016, volleyball players won. This time was a tiebreaker to ultimately declare the winners.

BAHS Video Production teacher Mrs. Carla Cipro helped wrestlers prepare for the volleyball game. She, along with many others, appreciate the game’s cause.

“I enjoy working with wrestlers and I love the sport of volleyball.  It’s also always great to be able to help raise money for someone in need,” Mrs. Cipro said.

Since this fundraiser was for a family member, it meant a lot to everyone involved. Raising money for this cause was important not only to the family, but also the people that knew them and knew the impact it would make.

“It was for a good cause for one of the moms of our players so it meant more to us than just a simple fundraiser,” junior volleyball player Lily Gardner said.

Both the volleyball and wrestling teams worked hard beforehand to make it a good game. Neither team wanted to lose, and it was even more intense since they were tied from the past years of playing with each other.

“We had some open gyms where the wrestlers were there too so we could practice before the game,” Lily said.

Not only were the volleyball players prepared, but the wrestlers put in some hard work to make it a close game. Mrs. Cipro enjoys seeing all of their hard work translated into the final game.

“It’s fun to see the skills come together for the wrestlers.  They practice quite a bit leading up to the event and so it’s neat to see them hold their own,” she said.

The first game was the JV volleyball against the parents and teachers. Lily noticed the enthusiasm from the parents and teachers. The game was close, but the parents and teachers came through with a win.

Finally, the varsity volleyball played the wrestling team. The volleyball team won the first two sets. The first set’s score was 25-17, and the second set ended with 25-14. The Volleyball vs. Wrestlers 2019 game broke the tie and concluded the volleyball team as the winners.

Along with the games, DJ Troy Breon was there entertaining the crowd and there was a gift basket raffle to raise money. This event was for such a great cause and ended up raising approximately $1,500 for the mother in need.
