On the morning of Saturday, March 28th, a house fire broke out in Spring Township, causing responders to rush to the scene as soon as possible. Tragically, responders could not prevent the two casualties, a man and woman, who died inside the house due to smoke inhalation.
Departments in Bellefonte, Milesburg, Pleasant Gap, and State College responded to the scene around 9:15am. The responders were immediately alerted by the police that there were two residents inside, but the victims were deemed dead on scene. The identities of the victims will not be released until DNA analysis confirms who they are.
Scenes like this one can be difficult to handle, but as a first responder you have your crew to stand by you.
“When you’re as a group/crew dealing with it together, you tend to relieve yourself through each other by talking and sharing about your thoughts on it,” Colson Serb said, a senior at Bald Eagle High School. Although not a responder to this scene, Colson, a member of the Howard Fire Company, has experienced the camaraderie in similar situations. He recalls having to participate in mandatory meetings after accidents.
Although certainly a tragedy, it is safe to say that there were no other sort of injuries in the event.
