One big question around the Christmas season is whether the world-renowned movie Die Hard is, in fact, a Christmas movie. The movie stars actor Bruce Willis as the role of John McClane, who is a former military lieutenant. He has been put into quite a predicament with the opposing criminals.
On Christmas Eve, McClane travels to the coast of Los Angeles to visit his distant wife at her company party inside the Nakatomi skyscraper. Soon after that, disaster strikes when a team of sophisticated thieves led by Hans Gruber. They plan to acquire 640 million dollars’ worth of bearer bonds. Many wonder what this plot has to do with Christmas. That is a very fair question to ask.
There are many things to consider when thinking about this question. It is during Christmas Eve, which is one of the most used reasons for people who believe it is a Christmas movie. It could be argued that it is a Christmas movie since McClane goes to reconcile with his wife, and people believe that’s a good reason because Christmas is a time to be with loved ones and celebrate together as one.
But there are many other ways to prove your point if you believe that it is in fact, not a Christmas movie. Reasons like it´s mainly an all-around action movie, but it just happens to take place on Christmas Eve. Another reason could be that it is way too gory and violent to be a Christmas movie due to the happy and jolly mood of the Christmas season. And people believe for that reason it isn’t supposed to be a Christmas Movie.
This question can sometimes be very controversial. But there are many people at Bellefonte High who have their own opinions. That includes Cole Stabinger, Aiden Swentosky, Profe, Mr. Virgilio, Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. Caruso. Most of which have the same opinion, being that it is a Christmas movie except for Mr. Virgilio. He stated that it is definitely not a Christmas movie.
In conclusion, most think that Die Hard is either an action movie set on Christmas eve or a true Christmas movie, and the majority of BAHS believes that the famous film is a Christmas Movie.
