It’s that time of the year again where Spotify has released 2025’s Spotify Wrapped. Every December, Spotify releases a personalized overview of one’s musical taste from the year and compiles it into a fancy slideshow for you to enjoy. It gives you a summary of the music, artists, genres and podcasts you most enjoyed from the year. Many choose to post their Spotify Wrapped results on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, creating a sort of trend to end the year off.
For some people, it isn’t just about the vibe, but the connection they have with a song and its artist. For many, they can say that Spotify Wrapped can give an accurate representation of their musical taste and moments that may have shaped their year. Bellefonte High freshman, Zee McCloskey, seems to share this sentiment.
“I think that Spotify Wrapped accurately reported my music taste because the songs that were my top five– I love them all,” Zee said.
Spotify Wrapped is like a yearbook for your music in a way. It shows you your journey throughout the year through music that shaped your life in the past year. For some, it isn’t just some collection of songs but a deep dive into someone’s vibe and personality. Being connected to your music isn’t just about the connection between you and the song itself, but how the artist’s words affect you. A lot of people can probably relate to the songs they listen to to some degree, and might even feel a connection to the artist that creates their favorite music.
“They even named some of my favorite artists, including my favorite artist as number one,” Zee remarked.
The artist ranking in Spotify Wrapped can most likely reflect on the type of music someone listens to. What else can reflect on someone’s music taste? Someone’s emotions and feelings.
“Music, in my opinion, can be a way to express yourself. If you are depressed, you would preferably want to listen to depressing music.” Zee said.
Emotions for people might determine what you will put on in your headphones. If you’re in a good mood, you wouldn’t want to ruin it by playing sad music, so you are more likely to listen to happier music. With Spotify Wrapped, you might be able to see what emotions you were feeling during certain points in the year. Seeing what you were listening to through Spotify Wrapped, might make you reflect on both the good and bad in your year.
No matter if you listen to country or heavy metal, Spotify will most likely continue making a profit off of Spotify Wrapped due to the amount of user engagement.
