The red maple wood creaks as all-black Mary Jane platforms step across the stage. The red curtain conceals the audience from the musicians as they sit down and ready their instruments. As the velvet portière unfolds, the crowd gazes up, their eyes sparkling with amazement. The lights focus to the top center, where the spotlight falls on the head cello: senior Elizabeth “Liz” Stack.
“Liz is currently the Principal Cello player of the Bellefonte Area High School orchestra, which means she is the top chair of cello players, and has been for a number of years,” said Mr Decker, the head instructor of the Orchestra Ensemble.
“[She] just missed qualifying for Region Orchestra last year by a mere 6 points (total point scale of 0-150). So yeah, she’s good.” said Mr. Decker.
Liz is an orchestra prodigy, focusing her mind on music as well as her studies. She’s a student, both day and night, constantly working to better herself, and to pave a path towards better education.
“In the short term, I’m looking forward to performing in [the] District Orchestra and Chorus and am aspiring to make it to Regions. Longterm, I want to design medical devices, particularly smart prosthetics,” Liz explained.
Aside from her academic and educational achievements, Liz is also a good friend and a good person. She’s a kind soul who embraces kindness into her daily life, always making sure that she’s there for people. Her range of friends are all supported by her graceful personality and her endless love and support. Everyone who knows Elizabeth can agree on that.
“Liz constantly puts others before herself, prioritizing their needs and issues instead of her own,” said Mr. Decker.
“As a friend, Liz is a constant pillar of support. She is completely non-judgemental and always there when you need her to be, no matter what.” said Raven Harter, Liz’s childhood best friend.
Overall, Liz is a role model for both students and people looking to better themselves. She has an innate skill for being a moral compass in her friend group, and naturally opens her arms to people in need. Her closest friends all agree on one thing; Elizabeth Stack is a beautiful and loving companion.
