The Bellefonte High School Variety Talent Show on February 25 presented great talent and great performers.
What is the Variety Show? Literacy Specialist Mrs. Sarah Rodgers has just the answer for those who might be wondering.
“The Variety Show is a fundraiser for our School Wide PBIS program, Raider Revolution. With these funds, we can provide prizes and events throughout the school year that reinforce the great things happening at BAHS,” Mrs. Rodgers said.
The show is an incredible opportunity for students to share their talents with the community. Over the years there have been various acts, they are always looking for diversity.
When students are willing to perform, it allows teachers to better know their students outside of the classroom and can build great community relationships.
Math Intervention Specialist and tutor Mrs. Jessica Baughman and Mrs. Rodgers are in charge of running the Variety Show. The show is large and takes a lot of time to organize, so why do they do it?
“I’ve always been involved in the performing arts. I play several instruments, sing, and act. These experiences helped me grow into the person that I am. Having an opportunity to share talents is incredibly important. Knowing the impact that my own experiences have had on my life, I see the Variety Show as a way for me to pay that forward,” Mrs. Rodgers said.
Mrs. Baughman also feels passionately that the Variety Show is a great chance for all students to do what they love in front of others.
“I love how the Variety Show is an opportunity for all students and staff to show off their abilities. It’s a fun, light-hearted, and low-pressure evening for all to enjoy, and the money raised goes to a good cause. It’s a tradition that we are able to carry on year after year at the High School, and we always look forward to the next year’s acts,” Mrs. Baughman said.
They are very passionate about students sharing their unique talents with the community, and lucky enough, BAHS has a lot of community members willing to help run and perform in the show.
Senior Isobel Herr performed, shockingly, for the first time, and if that wasn’t enough she performed four times with multiple people.
“Performing in four different acts was stressful, to say the least, but it was also really fun and a valuable experience for me. I think the best performance I was a part of was my duet with [fellow senior] Erin Ashe, it’s always a blast to work with her. I’ve gotten a taste for performing and I really enjoy it!” Isobel said.
On that note, Erin is a returning performer, having performed three other times in the show. She loved to sing with her best friend, Isobel, and the song she chose to sing.
“One thing I liked most about the variety show was getting to sing with my best friend, Isobel. She is one of the best singers I know, and singing with her for our senior year was amazing,” Erin said.
The variety show provides an incredible community for students who wish to share their talents and is a show worth seeing. If the chance is ever given to perform, taking it is always the best option. Bellefonte loves to see their performing arts students excelling on stage.
