This year, Centre County turned its head towards our school, Bellefonte Area High which won gold in education from Centre County Favorites. The Bellefonte Area Middle School and Elementary School placed bronze.
Vice principal, Mr. Stephen Caruso, shines some light on this award.
“I think the fact that we are a well rounded public high school led to us being selected for this award. One thing that sets BAHS apart is the varied opportunities that are available to our students,” Mr. Caruso said.
With so many chances to take advantage of at Bellefonte High School, students are heavily encouraged to exploit the many classes and programs that are offered.
“Students have a number of honors courses, AP courses, they can earn college credits, attend a great technical institution at CPI, and Mr. Fedisson has worked very hard the past few years to develop our School to Career program. For a high school our size, we offer a lot of options for individual students,” he said.
These opportunities could all be helpful for students, with some of these courses being beneficial in the future.
“Please take advantage of everything that is offered at BAHS. Students can walk out of here college ready. Students can walk out of here with solid technical skills and that they can take directly to a job or develop further at a technical school if a 4 year college is not for them.” Mr. Caruso expresses.
Many students from Bellefonte High have graduated and became successful. Such as, Jessica Shearer who graduated and became a math teacher, Colin Edmonds who became a coach for the Baseball U travel ball team, and Sam Grieb who studied to become an EMT.
“I’ve been with the district for 25 years and know of several very successful alumni. It’s there for the taking for all of our students,” Mr. Caruso said.
Being college ready, or even being ready for a job as soon as you leave high school, could help students get a head start in life without the stress.
“We are always very proud to see our school get recognized. I think we play a very important role in our community,” Mr. Caruso said.
At the end of the day, having a good education with many different opportunities plays an important role in students’ lives.
