Every time junior Luke Hockenberry walks onto the mat, he has a unique and entertaining style of wrestling.
Luke is an experienced and competitive wrestler. His matches will have you on the edge of your seat. He is a very versatile wrestler and can compete in a wide weight category of 215-285.
Competing in any sport is a very stressful thing and a lot of people can get in their own head, but Luke on the other hand is a little different.
“I just try to have fun in my matches, I try not to stress about them,” says Luke.
Having fun with a sport is super important to combat stress and perform well.
Being a part of a team is a big part of most sports. Wrestling is unique in the way that you are part of a team but compete individually. Having teammates that can pick you up when your down can make the experience so much better, Luke is one of those teammates.
“He is always positive with his teammates. He is easy going, so he gets along with all teammates and is able to pick them up after a tough match or tough loss,” says head wrestling Coach, Michael Maney.
“Some people I look up to are my parents and my coaches,” says Luke.
They give him endless support and encouragement.
Luke has been wrestling for six years and plans on continuing his wrestling career in college if he is presented with the opportunity.
Luke also wrestles for M2 Wrestling Center in Pleasant Gap. M2 is a year round wrestling center that focuses on development and skill building to advance their competitive edge.
Luke has a 27-7 record so far this season and pinned his opponent to win the dual meet against Phillipsburg-Osceola earlier this session. Come out to support Luke and the rest of the Bellefonte Wrestling team this season!
