Known as a friend to many, Madelyn “Maddie” Christie is finally reeling in her last year as a Bellefonte student. As a people person she has involved herself in a wide range of clubs, all of whom will miss her next year.
Madelyn is involved in many clubs, like Snowsports, Big Brother Big Sister program, Key Club, Class Cabinet, and Bellefonte Younglife. As one last hurrah, she joined Sideline Cheer for her senior year. Although this list might seem daunting to some, being the creative person Madelyn is, she has enjoyed the business of it all.
“I love being around people and doing things that are creative, so having these activities to participate in allows me to express that part of myself!” Madelyn said. Looking back at her time spent in her many clubs at Bellefonte, Madelyn’s favorite memory is with Drama Club, during the Fiddler on the Roof! show week.
“Everybody had so much fun and I got to see so many of my friends perform!” Madelyn said. She recalls getting food after every performance, and how rehearsal was never a bore.
“I think I’m excited to graduate,” Maddie said. Although she’ll miss the community she’s built, trying something new outside of small town life where she might find more people “like her,” is also exciting.
A part that must be noted about Madelyn is her dedication to community service. She won the Community service award for the senior class after volunteering at a summer camp for two months. This kind of work ethic has shown in her ability to get all A’s on every final report card she has had, as well as become elected Historian of the Drama Club.
Many can agree that high school is not always a breeze, so for Madelyn one of the ways she dealt with this was by realizing that it “genuinely doesn’t matter who likes you and who doesn’t.”
To any underclassman, she explains: “Your people will stay, and you will find them!” Madelyn said. One of Maddie’s “people” is senior, Emma Holsinger. They met when Emma first moved here in eighth grade, and Maddie showed her around the school.
“Maddie is super empathetic and understanding,” Emma said. They’ve stayed close ever since Emma’s first day, even going camping together at Clear Creek State Park.
After high school Madelyn plans on attending either Penn State University Park or University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she will continue her creative journey by studying Film Production with a minor in either Photography or Art. Wherever Madelyn goes it’s guaranteed she’ll make an impact.
